Digital X-Ray Systems: Things Only X-Rays Can See

Digital X-Ray Systems: Things Only X-Rays Can See

Digital x-ray systems have revolutionized the ways physicians diagnose and treat their patients. In many cases, imaging tests are among the first steps taken in order to rule out certain problems while in others, the tests are instrumental in finding the “hidden” causes of the patients’ symptoms.

X-rays are instrumental in helping doctors identify problems that are undetectable by the naked eye. They reveal fractures, sprains, tumors, bladder stones, and other musculoskeletal problems. But, in some cases, what they can reveal can be truly amazing.

The Case of the Failed Marriage Proposal

A man in New Mexico planned his proposal by putting his wife-to-be’s engagement ring in her milkshake. Unfortunately, she apparently gulped down the shake without using a straw because she wound up swallowing the ring! X-ray images confirmed the accident as the ring prominently stood out in the woman’s abdomen. Doctors were able to locate the ring using the images, giving them the exact place on where to retrieve it.

The Things Dogs Eat

Kids might say the darndest things, but when it comes to eating the darndest things, that honor goes to man’s best friend. X-rays have been used to find a huge array of crazy things in the bellies of dogs, including rocks, toys, needles, knives, pencils, coins, jewelry, and more. The most common things ingested by pets? Socks!

You Left What, Where?

18 months after her surgery, Australian, Pat Skinner, returned to the hospital complaining of stomach pain. Her x-rays showed that her surgeon accidentally left his surgical scissors inside of her abdomen, where they remained for over a year!

The Kidney Stone to End All Kidney Stones

In Hungary, Sandor Sarkadi went to the doctor complaining of pain in the abdomen. Doctors had him undergo a series of x-rays in which it was discovered that the patient had a massive kidney stone inside of him. The stone weighed two and a half pounds and reached a full six inches long.

The Latest Art Craze? Photographs Made Using Digital Radiography Systems

When you look closely at the human bone structure as seen through photographs taken by digital radiography systems, one can’t argue that there is an inherent beauty in the image. This beauty is what drives photographer, Hugh Turvey, to use x-ray technology in his pursuit to create incredible images unlike anything else being produced in the world of art. He’s been at it for more than 20 years, and as the radiography industry’s technology advances, so does his art.

Comparison of the Posture of School Children Carrying Backpacks Versus Pulling Them on Trolleys

FROM:   Clinical Chiropractic 2010 (Dec);   13 (4):   253–260

Johanna Schmidt, Sharon Docherty

It’s well understood that heavy backpacks are taking a heavy toll (excuse the pun!) on adolescent spines. A recent standing magnetic resonance imaging studyby the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California, at San Diego revealed that: “Increasing backpack loads significantly compressed lumbar disc heights measured in the midline sagittal plane” and that: “student subjects reported significant increases in back pain, associated with increasing backpack loads from 4, to 8, and finally to 12 kgs of carried weight”.

This most recent novel study (see below) was performed with German primary school children. [2] Researchers wanted to determine whether giving the children rolling luggage, to carry their school books, might reduce spinal stress. As it turns out, what might work well for Mom at the airport does not work so well for Junior, lugging his books across uneven sidewalks, all the way to school. The authors had to conclude that: “This suggests that school children should use backpacks rather than trolleys when the weight is within recommended limits”.

Benefits of Going Digital

Conventional x-ray film hasn’t changed very much in 100 years. However, in the past 10 years, there has been a development of affordable technology in the field. Darkrooms and film processors have given way to the new digital age of Radiography. This new x-ray era lends itself to higher efficiency and lower costs. With the world today pushing for everything to “Go Green”, digital radiography should be on the top of any Chiropractors list of considerations. Though the initial cost of “going digital” is a little more expensive than yesterday’s x-ray equipment, the amount of money saved in the long run, safety benefits and office space saved is priceless.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

One of the reasons for the continued rise and growth of chiropractic care in the medical field is due to the wide array of benefits that can be derived from it. Plus, many recommend this particular treatment method due to the non-invasive approach and its insistence on awakening the body’s natural ability to heal.

Common Chiropractic Benefits

Dysfunction in your muscoskeletal system does not exclude anyone. Therefore, anyone will benefit from the healing ability of chiropractic care to provide relief from any form of discomfort that one undergoes when they have misaligned spine, back, or neck. But for individuals who are required to remain active, the presence of such dysfunction disables them from performing well and limit their motor capacity. This is due to the fact that any form of movement on the traumatized area of the body can result to pain or discomfort.

How Chiropractic Services Changed My Life

This Youtube video was recorded from the Montel Williams show.

54-Year-Old Woman Improves Arthritis Through Chiropractic Care

I recently read an article that described how chiropractic treatments and adjustment procedures helped a 54-year-old woman. She was experiencing swelling in the hands, fingers, knees, toes and feet. She was also experiencing stiffness every morning. In her own description, she rated her pain as a constant 9 on a scale of 1-10 of severity.

After being evaluated with several different assessment tools (like posture evaluation, surface electromyography and xray imaging), Subluxation was found throughout the spine. She was given adjustments and treatments for 4 months. She also went through several rehabilitative exercises.

At the end of the 4 months of chiropractic care, she was asked about the severity of her pain. She rated the pain at 1 on a 1-10 scale. She no longer had to take medication for her symptoms and could now walk up and down the stairs as well as dance and exercise with no pain. Her post treatment tests revealed that her posture had also improved.

This is an amazing article. If you have time you should check it out! Below is the link to the full article.
